BESS Reference — Quarterly

Forsyt BESS Reference:
France, Q2 2026

Published

Q2 confirms a stronger BESS revenue environment in France. The reference asset averaged around €308k/MW-year, more than double the Q1 average.

Second quarterly issue

Forsyt BESS Reference is our public benchmark for attainable battery revenue. It shows what a reference BESS could have captured in the market conditions that actually occurred, using dispatch logic that can combine energy arbitrage, reserve capacity and balancing energy.

The reference is designed to make the revenue environment readable. In Q2, the French market moved materially higher, driven in large part by capacity products in a volatile system. Strong BESS value was available, and capturing it depended on strategy, timing and market access.

Attainable revenue — France, January to June 2026

The central estimate rose sharply into Q2 before normalising later in the quarter. The shaded range shows how much outcomes can vary across feasible dispatch strategies under the same market month.

Attainable revenue range (P10-P90) and central estimate. 10 MW / 20 MWh reference asset, France. €/MW-year.

What Q2 tells us

Q2 showed how storage value can rise even when average day-ahead prices soften. Battery revenue is built across several layers of the market, and those layers can move in different directions.

  • Capacity products mattered. FCR and aFRR capacity repriced higher and carried a larger share of the attainable revenue stack.
  • Energy volatility still shaped the result. Wider spreads and balancing events created windows where a battery could add value beyond reserve capacity alone.
  • Strategy dispersion widened. The same market month could produce materially different outcomes depending on how the asset allocated capacity, preserved state of charge and reacted to short-lived price events.

That is the main takeaway for asset owners: the market signal is useful, but it is only the starting point. The project-level answer depends on asset constraints, route-to-market choices and the quality of the dispatch strategy.

Built on BenchmarkPro

Forsyt BESS Reference is produced by Forsyt Energy through BenchmarkPro, our dispatch and benchmarking platform. The engine replays historical market conditions, applies battery operating constraints and compares feasible dispatch paths to estimate what was genuinely attainable.

  • Multi-market replay across energy arbitrage, reserve capacity and balancing energy.
  • Battery-aware dispatch with state of charge, power, headroom and efficiency constraints.
  • Comparable monthly reference that separates market conditions from project-specific assumptions.

On a real project, the same workflow can be run against the actual asset configuration. The public reference gives the market baseline. BenchmarkPro turns that baseline into an asset-specific view.
