How do you sell renewable output when prices, risks and flexibility needs are all moving at once? That was the question behind the France Renouvelables training on commercialising renewable assets, where Forsyt presented a PV + BESS sizing study built on a real project.
On 10 September, France Renouvelables held a remote training session on the commercialisation of renewable assets, moderated by Rachel Ruamps. Julio Quintela Casal, CEO of Forsyt Energy, shared the panel with Rebecca Aron (Groupe VALOREM), Joshua Margulies (Aurora Energy Research) and Kerstin Pienisch (Next Kraftwerke).
The session covered new commercialisation models for renewable assets and how co-locating storage with renewables raises the value of a plant.
Julio presented our PV + BESS sizing study, built on a real solar project. It covered how the battery is valued, how co-location changes the plant's revenue, and how grid connection constraints shape the configuration.
The main lesson is not the one people usually expect: each additional hour of storage has to earn more than it costs. On this project the balance sits around four hours. Beyond that, the extra revenue no longer keeps up with the extra spend.
Longer is not automatically better. The right duration depends on the site, its production profile and the markets the battery can reach, which is why it has to be tested project by project.
The full 3.5-hour replay, with all the panel's contributions, is available on registration from France Renouvelables.
On 1 October, Julio gives a keynote at the Montel French Energy Days on solar projects facing growing power market volatility. Using market data and a concrete PV + BESS sizing case, he will cover what makes or breaks a project's profitability: capturing value despite negative prices, choosing the right storage duration, and using the grid connection once the battery is in place.
